Quick Fix: This error means QuickBooks can't verify the update files it downloaded — usually a certificate or internet connection issue. Restart QuickBooks as administrator, make sure you're online, and try the update again.
What Causes Error 15215?
- Internet Explorer settings or TLS configuration — QuickBooks uses Windows' internet settings (inherited from Internet Explorer/Edge) to download updates. If TLS 1.2 isn't enabled or security settings are too restrictive, the download fails verification.
- Missing or expired digital signature certificate — The update files are digitally signed. If your system can't validate the signature, QuickBooks rejects the update.
- Firewall or proxy blocking the update server — Corporate firewalls, VPNs, or proxy servers can block QuickBooks' connection to Intuit's update servers.
How to Fix QuickBooks Error 15215
Method 1: Enable TLS 1.2 in Internet Options
- Open Control Panel → Internet Options
- Go to the Advanced tab
- Scroll to the Security section
- Make sure Use TLS 1.2 is checked (uncheck TLS 1.0 and 1.1 if present)
- Click Apply → OK
- Restart QuickBooks and try updating
Method 2: Install the Digital Signature Certificate
- Navigate to

- Right-click QuickBooks → Run as Administrator
- Go to Help → Update QuickBooks Desktop → Update Now → Get Updates
- Re-enable your firewall after the update completes
Method 4: Reset QuickBooks Updates

Still Getting Error 15215?
- Try updating on a different network — if you're behind a corporate firewall, try from home or a hotspot
- Contact Intuit Support if the digital certificate can't be installed

Prevent This Error in the Future
- Keep TLS 1.2 enabled — it's required for all Intuit connections
